WORLD WHALE WEB

– The Heart of the Ocean –

World Whale WebThe Heart of the Ocean – is an underwater adventure of a 10 year old girl called Vanira. During a boat accident  she gets hurt and disappears into the ocean were she starts a surprising exhilarating, wonderful, and revealing journey. Guided by a little seal, the whales and other underwater friends she embarks on the quest of finding the Heart of the Ocean.

This is an animated film in a realistic style. The visuals of World Whale Web will have a subtle underlying layer, a grid of Sacred Geometry related to Aboriginal Dream Time painting. As in music, it may invoke an immediate connection with our natural recognition of the essence of life.

SYNOPSIS

Vanira lives with her Maori father Tohi and her French mum Mimi in East Australia. The Aboriginal widow Seal, who works in the marine park with Tohi, and his son Joey are closely connected to the family.

A beautiful morning Tohi and Seal take the 2 kids on a small boat with outboard motor snorkelling in the (apparent calm) shallow bay near their home, while Mimi who is a nature photographer, is working on a reportage on fishing trawlers.

As they prepare to get into the water a freak wave sneaks up behind them and turns the boat over. All 4 passengers get hurled violently into the ocean. The outboard hits Vanira’s head. From her limp body a transparent energy body of Vanira swims out and floats into a kaleidoscopic vortex of fish.

When Vanira’s energy body comes out on the other side a little Seal is waiting for her (this may be changed to another animal). He calms her and assures her that everything is fine because “Ma the great Ocean Spirit” has asked for her to come to the underwater world, where Sealy is her assigned guide.

Sealy takes the little girl on a journey to visit his friends in the coral city. They find the place in total chaos; a monster has come and taken countless animals and destroyed their homes. Sealy urgently takes off with Vanira on his back to seek advise from Self-fish the oracle, in which one mirrors one self and through whom ‘Ma The Great Ocean Spirit’ speaks. With the dream-like voice Self-fish says that they need to find the Heart of the Ocean.

Sharksa, a female biker-shark, with a heart of gold, her clone daughter Sharklette, Vanira and Sealy are accompanied on their quest to find the Heart of the Ocean by Sharksa’s 5 Gettho-boy sons, Wha the Whale ,the shy pink Humpback-whale (changed from Blue Whale in script), The Sucker (fish) Twins, the little dotted fish Gymea, Otto the Octopus and Spy-fish.

Wha communicates with all the whales via The World Whale Web to gather advise on how to chase the monster and on where they may find the Heart of the Ocean.

Dick Slick the owner of the fish trawler ‘The Oceans are mine’ roams the waves hunting anything alive he can lay his nets on. His father perished in a storm on the ocean and Dick will never forgive.

While the companions set out to find the Heart of the Ocean, they encounter the dangers and challenges of the world above the waves. Wha the whale is hunted and wounded by Dick’s Japanese friend. While his blood attracts all the sharks from far and beyond, Wha sings for the first time.

Sharksa and her family take it up against the large group of frenzy- sharks.

Vanira helps Sharksa to clean her teethes. When Vanira relieves her from a painful tooth with fishing line around it, she makes a necklace and wears the tooth around her neck.

As Dick Slick is getting ready to rake the ocean bottom where it is teeming with life, Sealy, Vanira and the companions do everything to avoid the destructions. Wha, with the help of the World Whale Web, summoned Archie the Architeuthis (giant squid) to come to the rescue. Only seconds from disaster Archie emerges from the deep and pushes over the trawler. Everyone falls overboard.

Wha blows a bubble of air around Dick, who screams with anger. He looks around him and watching the animals with big surprised eyes. He faces a world of victorious sea-creatures; his mouth falls open and something in the expression of his eyes changes.

Self-fish’s mirrors are becoming duller every day. With a weak voice the oracle speaks with clues to find the Heart of the Ocean.

The companions find He-Love the muscle who takes them to a very locked Shelly the voluptuous shellfish who guards the treasure. The only way they may seduce Shelly to open up and expose the key to the Heart of the Ocean is to sing to her. All the sea animals sing together and very slowly Shelly opens, her colourful flesh blossoming with beauty. Bubbles in the shape of hearts escape from her mouth, floating and whirling around all the friends. They look at one another and in one voice they say ‘But WE are the Heart of the Oceans!’ Everyone celebrates.

When a shiny Self-fish with her dreamlike features mingles with the companions, Vanira says with a sad voice she really misses her parents and friends.Self-fish asks her to look into her mirrors and while everyone cheers her farewell, Vanira is taken into the vortex of fishes, Sealy gliding secretly next to her.

While Vanira takes off she hears: ‘Tell all Humankind about us! – We are all one Family’.

When she pops out on the other side of the vortex of fish, Sealy morphs into Seal, Vanira’s Aboriginal friend. They are back where the boating accident happened and Vanira’s head is bleeding. Seal grabs Vanira strongly with tenderness bringing her to the surface. ‘Got her!’ he screams to her dad Tohi and his son Joey, who together are waiting on the surface, with their turned over boat floating in the distance. Tohi and Joey scream with relief.

Then the sound of an approaching boat rises. Dick Slick with Vanira’s mum Mimi and his Japanese friend on board of his ship come to the rescue. Dick’s boat is waving colourful flags and banners saying ‘Save the Whales’. And on the bow it reads: ‘The Heart of the Ocean’.

The four get taken from the water onboard, with Mimi covering Vanira‘s wound and cuddling the children while the men form a circle of happy gratitude.

Vanira looks at Dick with great fearful surprise, recognising his face, but before she can speak he takes her hand, guides it to Sharksa’s tooth on the nylon line around her neck and winks at her.

Vanira smiles contently.

Explanation of introduction part of World Whale Web:

Please note for following descriptions: Names of characters are possibly changing after research is completed.

In this Synopsis the intro of the film, is not yet included, as it needs research and is to be in respect with the Aboriginal culture and protocol.

The main character Vanira  is from an indigenous dad and Western mum.

Seal, Vanira‘s mentor is Australian Aboriginal and colleague of Vanira’s father Tohi. He is a widow and has a son Joey is Vanira’s best friend.

The two families are strongly connected. The children are like brother and sister and spend a lot of time together.

All members of the family have an animal totem – to be established with research.

As Vanira’s parents go through challenges in their relationship (associated to difference in cultural habits) Seal has taken on to guide Vanira through this testing period.

Seal tells Vanira and Joey Dream Time Stories, he teaches the children to paint and dance, play games and explains how to live in respect with nature. He talks about the ocean animals. (This all in respect with indigenous culture and protocol)

He speaks about the indigenous ways and about the sacred sites of which some disappeared into the ocean.

All these aspects will be integrated in the later part of the film as flash backs to stories and totems when Vanira meets different ocean creatures.

Also underwater locations may refer to Aboriginal sites (when in respect with indigenous  cultural protocol)

For instance: the oracle fish Self-fish is living in a cave, an Aboriginal site Seal spoke about, which disappeared under the waves.  Other prominent locations in World Whale Web may be related to Aboriginal stories and sites.

Also the behaviour of the characters may be linked to the spirit of specific Aboriginal totems.

Vanira is guided underwater by Sealy, a little seal (or other animal), sent by Ma the Great Ocean Sprit (name may change to indigenous  name).

Sealy in fact is Seal, Vanira’s Aboriginal guide who morphed into Sealy when the girl moves from our world through a vortex of fish into the underwater world. This will only be clarified at the end of the movie. (As there are no seals on the Barrier reef, he seal animal character may change to another creature that lives on the Barrier Reef).
